Blue Ribbon Family Restaurant and Bakery is currently in its third generation of family ownership. Founded in 1977, the Blue Ribbon started out as a small diner with limited seating and a small menu, serving classic American favorites like hot open turkey sandwiches, burgers, and home-style baked goods. In 1980 the Blue Ribbon entered their cheesecake at the Finger Lakes Fall Harvest Festival and won first prize. More success followed at the Massachusetts and Vermont Fall Festivals in 1981, giving way to five consecutive first prize awards at the Coliseum in New York City. Over time the popularity of the restaurant demanded more seating. Between 1988 and 1991 the two more dining rooms were added bringing the total seating capacity to 220. Remodeled several times throughout the years, the spacious yet cozy dining rooms offer a comfortable dining atmosphere, appropriate for families, special occasions, and can accommodate large parties as well.
Today, the Blue Ribbon is not only known for their award winning cheesecake, but also for their exceptional home style cooking. All soups, sauces, gravies, and chef’s specials are made from scratch daily the old fashioned way using the best ingredients; a style of cooking that is time consuming but creates the best in quality and flavor. From traditional American fare to Steaks and Seafood, Pastas, Italian and Greek, you the customer are guaranteed a large variety to choose from. Fresh Broiled Seafood, Hand Breaded Fish & Chips, Macaroni & Cheese, Extra Large Reuben’s, Scrumptious Salads, Chicken Parmesan, Prime Rib, Homemade Spinach Pie and Mousaka are some of the house favorites to name a few. Breakfast is also available all day, the pancakes are amazing!
Since 1977, the Blue Ribbon has been serving the Capital District proudly and the future is bright! The management and staff, many of whom are still employed there from the very beginning, continue to work hard to provide the best in customer service and great tasting food. In 2011, the restaurant underwent major kitchen and bakery renovations. These upgrades have provided the staff with the resources to experiment new dishes and expand the cheesecake and pastry selections. And recently, with expansion of the front dining room and counter area, the restuarant can offer more seating and more desserts!
